Vivekananda College Hostel

Vivekananda Hostel is managed by the Hostel Committee, of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur, D.K.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Vivekananda Hostel is a centre for living, learning and for integral growth. This Hostel is a study house. While providing facilities for boarding and lodging for students, the Hostel strives to create a healthy and conducive atmosphere for study. Importance is also given to develop a healthy personality protecting one’s own dignity and to respect the other person’s rights for dignity.

 Since the inmates of the Hostel belong to different religious background and  culture, our Hostel is a micro world in itself and the very fact of living in this environment trains the inmates to cherish the unity and celebrate this diversity, thus transforming them into citizens of the world. Hostel life induces the inmates to understand the ‘other’.

Our Hostel provides to its inmates opportunities of sharing responsibility in running the hostel, thus helping them develop into a  responsible person, capable of cultivating personal and social values of self-respect, politeness, justice and truthfulness, respect for others, mutual concern and fellowship.

Order and discipline are essential ingredients of common life and they create an atmosphere for an effective learning. It is to enhance the quality of living and to aim at excellence that the following rules are framed. They are liable to be revised periodically and made more relevant to the needs of the inmates.

Vivekananda Hostel is essentially a Study House. Its characteristics being:

  • To fulfill the need of providing accommodation and other amenities to the students who are desirous to study at Vivekananda Institutions.
  • To ensure that students dwell in a healthy environment that helps them to grow and learn without any obstacle.
  • To promote an ambiance of friendship, togetherness with a consistent omnipresence of values and principles regarding acceptance and tolerance. Without wavering from the prime focus of academic studies the hostel provides facilities for recreation.

Hostel accommodation is provided with the understanding that the resident student will strictly abide by the Hostel Rules currently in force or as may be enforced from time to time. Accommodation in the Hostel cannot be claimed as a matter of right. The Institute Administration may refuse accommodation to any student who is known to have grossly violated the Hostel Rules or whose presence is likely to disturb the peace and tranquility of hostel. Violation of hostel rules will make the student liable to disciplinary action including permanent expulsion from the hostels. Students must remember that hostel is the home of the student on the campus and therefore, he/she should behave on the campus as well as outside in such a manner as to bring credit to him/her and to the Institution. A student once admitted in the hostel, will continue to be a hostel inmate throughout the year unless otherwise debarred from the hostel on disciplinary grounds and he/she will have to pay the room rent for both the terms. Every student must be acquainted with all the rules and regulations of the Hostel. He / She must observe them strictly. Ignorance of rules will not be considered as an excuse.

FURNITURE & ELECTRICAL FITTINGS

  • Students are expected to switch off the lights and fans in their rooms every time they go out and take precautions to economies electricity consumption.
  • Use of electrical appliances such as heaters, electrical irons etc. are strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule will lead to disciplinary action.
  • Tampering with and alteration of electrical fittings are strictly prohibited and liable for action.
  • Room furniture, electric fittings etc are required to be maintained by the students in good conditions. At the time of allotment of seat / leaving the hostel for Summer Vacation every student must take over / handover the hostel room properly and carefully. They shall not break or damage any furniture and fittings. If any breakage occurs then cost will be realized (individually or collectively), together with fines imposed on them.
  • Please inform the Asst. Warden if any repairs are necessary in your room.
  • Power supply will be switched off between 9 AM and 4 PM ie during the working hours of the College.

RECREATION AND GAMES

Sports plays an important role in the all-round development of students. Focusing on this aspect, the hostel encourages the boarders to:

  • Actively involve themselves in sports and games till 5.30 pm everyday.
  • Those who are in the college teams, athletes and those who are involved in college activities and will be late for evening studies, should give a written note informing the authorities the reason for such delay. The letter has to be countersigned by the concerned staff member with his seal.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Hostelites are expected to display acceptable form of behavior, maintain discipline and decorum in the hostel complex.

Every student needs to strictly adhere to the common timetable.

Absolute silence at the prescribed hours is necessary for fruitful study so that every inmate can concentrate on the work at hand. Silence should be maintained within the hostel during the following hours:

  • 6 AM to 7-30 AM
  • 9 AM to 12-30 PM,   2 PM to 4PM (On sundays and other holidays)
  • 6 PM to 8-00 PM
  • 9 PM to 10-30 PM
