Dept of Electronics
Electronics is a branch of science that has developed in recent years and has become popular .Today the field of electronics involves design, development, production, research and testing. The types of jobs in this field are research and development, technician, production and sales, teaching, service and maintenance, computer hardware etc. The self-employment potential is a great boost to this fascinating field of electronics. Because of these reasons it is very relevant to study Electronics as an optional subject in the undergraduate course.
Electronics was introduced as an optional subject for B.Sc course in this college during the academic year 1990-91 by the then Principal Prof. M.Suryanarayanappa, and was attached to the Physics Department. The Department was looked after by Prof D.S.Bhat, HOD of physics till 1993. Subsequent to his becoming the Principal, the Department was looked after by Prof. P. R. Karanth, HOD of Physics till 2002. Later the Department was headed by Dr. K. Suryanaraya. Presently the department is headed by Ms.Suprabha.
Since inception, the department has been engaged in imparting quality education with strong base in electronics fundamentals along with the moral values. Various Webinars and guest lectures are organized to keep the students updated on the latest developments in the field of Electronics. Workshops are organized to provide hands on experience and the students are encouraged to do project works to cultivate innovative practices in them. Further, to improve their communication and presentation skills, the students are encouraged to take up seminars. The department also offers certificate course.
As an extension activity, the department has been organising ‘Indepth program’ (Practical demonstration of Science experiments to class 10th students) .In this program, the students of the department are given an opportunity to demonstrate the experiments there by helping them improve their knowledge of basic Electronics.
