Vivekananda College started in the year 1965. The college was affiliated to the University of Mysore. Formerly during those days number of colleges in DK. District is very less. The number of students offering Hindi as a language subject was very less among the colleges under Mysore University. Comparing to other Districts in Karnataka the due importance has been given to Hindi as a language subject is far better in D.K and Udupi Districts. Now more than hundred teachers are engaged in teaching Hindi in their respective colleges, in Mangalore University area. The common men of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts have a great love and affection on Hindi has a result of which they are insisting their wards to study Hindi during their higher studies. In our college also the students in good number are offering Hindi language since 1965. Many Hindi pracharaks have given wide publicity for Hindi language. There is a large number of
pupils of Puttur, those who have good achievements in the examinations conducted by Dakshina Bharath Hindi Prachar Sabha, Karnataka Mahila Hindi Samithi Bangalore, Karnataka Hindi Prachar Sabha Mysore etc., The percentage of results in Hindi examinations in our college during the most of the years is more than 99%.During the year 2022-23 our college got the status of Autonomous College. It would be most helpful to the job seekers for their dealings if the employment opportunities are offered to them in the places belonging to non Hindi speaking areas.
