DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE

Chemistry department of Vivekananda College came into existence once the college was instituted. After the infantile difficulties, the department proved itself to be one of the strong areas of the institution. The department was fortunate to get some of the highly qualified, dedicated and efficient faculty.

As a result, the dedicated work of the erstwhile Head of the department, Late Prof. U. Rammohan Rao, (who retired as the principal in 2002), Prof. J. Sundar Bhat, (who retired from service in the year 2000) and Dr. B. Shridhar Bhat (who retired as the principal in 2007), Dr. Sudhakaran T. (who deputed to Govt. First Grade College Car Street Mangalore, in 2015) Chemistry department grew from strength to strength.

Prof. Krishna Karanth K. is presently functioning as the Head of the Department. Mrs. Nisha N, Mrs. Kavitha kumari are other faculties in the department.

To be center of excellence in education with an innovative teaching, learning, research activities. To cater to the academic needs of the students by providing qualitative education making it sufficient in life.

Mission Concept:

To provide the students with knowledge, skills, values and sensitivity to face the challenges in life both in academic field as well as in their personal life and to enable the students to explore the locally available economic resources for their employment and providing support to the society.

Unique Feature:

The teachers of the department firmly believe in true values of chemistry and wish to work with untainted dedication to bring awareness among the students regarding the purpose of studying chemistry and its future scopes.
To motivate the students to participate in extracurricular activities beyond their curriculum.

Strength of the Department:

The staff members in the department are continuously improving their knowledge skill and efficiency through indulging in research work, attending seminars, workshops and departmental extension activities. The Department has diversified its activities beyond the classroom teaching. In the meantime, the staff members of the Department are keeping up with the new skills and knowledge. The department has also associated itself with almost all the programmes arranged and organized by the college.
