The English Department is a dynamic and vibrant learning community that is committed to explore the complex and exciting relationship among languages, literature and culture. The Department of English encourages the students to think critically, to develop effective communication skills and cultivate lifelong habits of learning. We also strive to provide a conducive and caring learning environment where our students can express themselves, explore their potential and grow into engaged citizens.
All these academic accomplishments can be attributed the relentless services of the former teachers of the Department – Prof. G. K. Shenoy (also the founder Principal), Prof. M Narayana Chettiya, Prof. Venkataramana Bhat, Prof. Cicily Kutty Philip, Dr. H Madhava Bhat and others.
Our academic programs are designed to give students an understanding of the historical, cultural and linguistic contexts of literature and language. We also offer a variety of extra-curricular activities and programs to help the students to become well-rounded individuals. These include Certificate Courses, Literary Association, Literary Magazines and various other activities. We also host many special events throughout the year such as Guest Lectures, Literary Competitions and workshops, to augment the learning experience of the students. The students are provided with the platforms to demonstrate their learning and gain confidence through the extension activities in the nearby schools.
We invite you to join us and be a part of re-search into the wonderful world of language, literature and life.
