In 2006 the Department of Journalism got inaugurated by Sri Ram Bhat, the Correspondent of Vivekananda College Puttur. At present Smt.Bhavya.P.R Nidpalli working as the Head of the Department and Smt.Havyashree PK as lecturer in the department.
Journalism is one of the fastest growing fields. So most of the colleges are introducing this subject in B.A. course. Students are also rushing towards this course in a large number. Journalism course helps to identify and encourages writing skills among the students. Being a professional course, it helps the students to get a job immediately after completion of the course.
Vikasana: A Regular monthly practical journal published by the Department of Journalism. It is the best platform for Journalism students to exhibit their own ideas. This program has been running successfully for 11 years.
Manikarnika: Manikarnika is a platform for speakers (Hosatu Hoseva Pari) began in 2012. It was a platform organized by the students for their benefits.. The students share their own experiences based on the simple and unique topics given to them. The stage provides opportunities for everyone to enhance their public speaking skills.
Photography: we provide regular training for each student in photography and videography.
Vikasana Multi Media Studio: Vikasana Multi Media studio provides opportunities for the students, who want to enhance their skill in anchoring, video editing and voice over.
Community Radio: Radio Panchajanya 90.8 MHz is also one of the best platforms to our students to explore their ideas on different topics.
Dept of Journalism offers both UG and PG Programme to train young men/women as professional journalist. The course provides great opportunities for the students in media exposure, career identification and personality development. The College is located in the outskirts of Puttur town beside Mysore – Mangalore State Highway, spread over a sprawling campus of nearly 50 acres dotted with green vegetation.
