Born in Kota a coastal village of erstwhile South Canara District – Shivarama Karantha moved to Puttur to make this place his stage for all his creative works and educational experimentations. It is a sort of poetic justice that a study centre called “Shivarama Karantha Adhyayana Kendra” has come to the setup in the college – largely drawing on the inspiration and guidance from Sri Bolanthakodi Ishwara Bhat. Though it was founded on 09.12.1998 the Kendra has already acquired a great reputation by organising various kinds of literary activities, conducting State level Essay competitions, Conferring Awards on creative writers and holding workshops and seminars.
Now the activities of the Kendra have come to be viewed as college activities. They are planned and executed by an Executive Council.
Shivarama Karantha Adhyayana Kendra has instituted an award Niranjana Prashasthi to be awarded every year to a Kannada writer for his/her contributions to – creative writing in Kannada literature.
List of writers who received Niranjana Prashasthi:
The College is located in the outskirts of Puttur town beside Mysore – Mangalore State Highway, spread over a sprawling campus of nearly 50 acres dotted with green vegetation.
